In our ongoing Meet the Team feature, we put a name and a face on the amazing members of our team. Today we would like to introduce Silveus Insurance Group agent Nate Setser.

Where is your hometown and did you grow up around farming?

I’ve been lucky enough to call the little town of Bourbon, Indiana my hometown. Bourbon is a small agricultural community; however I was not raised on a farm. The closest I got to farming was growing up with a good group of friends that farmed; who occasionally let me partake in some agricultural activities – most of which had to do with bails and stacking.

What are your clients asking you about today?

It is no secret that margins are very tight in agriculture, in turn, customers are interested in receiving the best protection possible while keeping spending lean. They want to know more about products like PriceFlex, a supplemental insurance policy that provides a potential for higher revenue protection guarantees than the base coverage established on the underlying Revenue Protection or Area Risk Protection Insurance plans. PriceFlex was one of our top insurance products in 2016 and I can see it being a top player in 2017 as well.

What is your approach to customer service?

Ah the golden question in crop insurance! Customer service plays a key role in agriculture and it’s a key driver in this business. I have found that trust goes a long way and I’ve crafted my approach to ensure each customer’s concerns are addressed. By dedicating time to understanding the ins-and-outs of their business, we work to minimize their risk. By providing an enterprise view of their operation, we can help customers make more-informed business decisions.

How long have you been working at Silveus and what do you like best about your job?

I have been at Silveus for 8 years and hope to stay here until the day I retire! I truly enjoy and appreciate the relationships I have built with both customers and fellow coworkers. I’ve gained many friendship from this job. I enjoy helping farmers manage their risks and due to the nature of our business and our customers, I’m on the road a lot and don’t spend a lot of time behind a desk. I appreciate the opportunity to visit each customer’s farm to get a feel for their business. This is helpful when developing risk management strategies and analyzing insurance options that align with their goals.

What are you most excited about?

I am most excited about the crop year ahead of us. 2017 will bring about its own set of challenges that I look forward to tackling—providing industry expertise to help customers understand how policy changes and updates affect their specific operations.

What is one fun fact about yourself your co-workers don’t know?

Many of my co-workers don’t know that for the past 15 years, a couple times a week, I pick up a 6-string and play. It’s my way of unplugging and recharging so I can bring my best to my customers.
